About Us

In 2003, Senior Media Coordinator Chanin Coyle was assigned to help staff the Compas, Inc. Media Department with assistants for the busy holiday season. Coyle recognized the tremendous potential for college students to learn and gain experience, so she designed and developed an internship program for a single semester. The single semester internship grew into a full year program. As time passed, it expanded into other departments throughout the company.  After years of successfully placing interns, other companies contacted Coyle about developing similar internship programs for them. The idea flourished for a web based business when companies requested additional services such as resume access,  promotion and networking with local colleges.

In 2004, Coyle put pen to paper. Over an eight month period, Coyle worked with the Rutgers-Camden Small Business Administration and developed a business plan and marketing strategy. Upon completion of the plan, Coyle made her pitch to a potential partner to launch Usaintern, llc full time.  The goal of the web business was two fold: One, to help employers develop quality internship programs that could potentially transition a graduating college student into a full time hire. It would also assist in the promotion to local colleges and career centers. Second, it would be a quick and easy reference for students to find internship, externship and volunteer opportunities at a local level. Internship websites were presented on a state-by-state basis.  The plan was approved and the first website, WisconsinIntern, was officially launched in April 2005.

The beginning of the new business allowed Coyle to dedicate her time to working with college career centers, employers from chambers of commerce and associations, as well as with student organizations. Surveys, focus groups and online communications from students, employers and colleges helped to craft the website based on the needs of the users.

Today, over 50 internship websites exist providing local internship opportunities across the nation. Thousands of employers have posted opportunities in over eighty career categories. Companies such as the FBI, ABC Inc., NFL Films, MTV Networks, Marvel Comics, Trump Entertainment Resorts and CBS News are among those employers who have posted with the site.

In addition to the postings, Usaintern, llc set themselves apart by allowing students to interact within a social environment. In 2008, Usaintern, llc incorporated SocialPass. This system allows students to ask their friends about a particular company and internship program.  SocialPass connects students to their friends in Facebook, Twitter and Myspace.  Also in 2008, Usaintern, llc introduced podcasts, forums and a new cell phone text alert system. This new system provides immediate notification via cell phone when an employer reviews their resume and requests an interview.

By utilizing her own service, Coyle works with students every semester in the development and execution of the site. The site was designed, programmed and maintained BY STUDENT INTERNS. Many interns have graduated school and returned to Usaintern, llc helping new students.  Usaintern, llc has transitioned interns into full time hires and part time employees.

Coyle continues to work with her team in expanding the internship opportunities into new and growing careers.
